Factory warranty vs Drive Easy — what actually pays
One is for defects. The other is for what happens after. GAP is neither.
Updated 2026-09-09 · Platinum Volkswagen, Hicksville, NY

Customers mix these up at the desk. Factory warranty is Volkswagen standing behind defects in materials and workmanship for a stated time and miles. Drive Easy is optional protection you buy. GAP is about the loan if the car is totaled. Three different contracts.
| Factory limited warranty | Drive Easy VSP | GAP | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pays for | Defects VW is on the hook for | Covered mechanical breakdown after / around warranty | The hole between insurance and what you still owe |
| Wear items (pads, battery, wipers) | No | Term Protection can | No |
| Pothole wheel | No | Tire & Wheel plan can | No |
| Total loss | No | No | Yes, if you bought GAP |
| Required to buy the car | It comes with the car | No — optional | No — optional |
When Drive Easy is the point
Out of bumper-to-bumper, still in the car. Powertrain, Gold, or Platinum exclusionary plans. Honored at participating VW dealers nationwide — including this shop if you bought the plan at another store. Term Protection is the wear-item version (pads, battery, belts) usually only early in the new-car warranty.
What we won’t do
- Pack products into a payment without saying so.
- Tell you Drive Easy is mandatory.
- Pretend GAP is mechanical coverage.
Education, not a work order. Specs vary by VIN. Owner’s manual and a quote from Platinum Volkswagen LLC win arguments. Schedule service.
